These fonts have been designed to be highly readable on TV screens when displayed as subtitles or captions.
EFF Caius (shown below) is suitable for displaying at almost any point size as can be seen in the following gif showing text at sizes between 10 and 72 points.

Since in the global market TV sets are produced for countries using many different languages, it is cost effective to have just one font capable of displaying all required languages.
These fonts are suitable for all Latin, Greek and Cyrillic European languages as well as some Asian ones as follows.
